Bathroom Expansion and Remodel

| Square Ft of Bathroom: 100 | Items Remodeled: Expanded from 8x10 to 10x10, travertine tile, separate tub and shower, vanities |
| My husband and I remodeled our master bath by taking out a tub/shower combination, and making a separate spa tub and shower. In order to do this we had to move the wall of the bathroom out 2 feet. We also moved the toilet from it's original location in the sight line of the doorway behind a wall. The labor was free, but, you have to be pretty handy to do it. The tools and plumbing, electrical cost around $50. The bathtub was $750, the shower surround was $750, and we also got 2 separate vanities for $600 total. We spent $1,000 on travertine tiles which will cover the floor, up to chair rail height, and the shower and tub surround. Drywall was about $8 a sheet, and we used 10 sheets. The toilet we bought was $250. The remaining cost was in fixtures, $700 for multiple jet shower heads, and we hired professional drywall finishers to make the job look as professionally done as we feel it is! |

| Square Ft of Bathroom: 100 | Items Remodeled: Turned 3 season porch into powder room |
| My husband gutted and insulated our three season porch, added a wall and installed plumbing for a new powder room. The plumbing was relatively easy since the upstairs bathroom was directly above the new bathroom. It was his first stab at plumbing and he found it relatively painless. Lots of DIY books out there to help along the way. We estimate that with materials and fixtures we spend approx. $1,750. |

This was a typical hall way full bath. Standard 5 foot tub, tiled surround. 1 window. Small vanity. Composite countertop with integrated sink. The wall was double thick for plumbing so we recessed a 7 inch deep cabinet in the wall.. a nice feature. Flooring just vinyl which we will replace this year. Did all the work ourselves less the plumbing. Next time will do the plumbing too! took about 5 full days. It turned out nice..better than it was!
If you are looking for a quick online estimating tool. www.remodelestimates.com has an online tool that gives OK cost estimates..can never replace a detailed quote..but gives you a quick idea of the costs of things. |

I remodeled our bathroom completely with quality finishes. Never done any of the work before so I learned as I went.
New tiled floor, tiled 3 walls around shower and installed 3 foot by 4inch granite cap on the shelf. New shower head, trim kit and tub head (rubbed oil finish). New dark cherry 31" vanity comort height, undermount sink with granite counter top, new oil rubbed facet, new mirror, light fixtures replaced on ceiling and wall, new toilet, primed and painted walls and ceiling, bamboo shade.
It's incredible how great it looks with just a little hard work at such a low cost. I originally priced around for the tie job and they were going to charge me $1800 just for that alone. I ened up doing it for the cost of materials which was about $500 tile, grout, adhesive. |

We had to gut out all of the old fixtures and we extended the bathroom out 2 feet into the walk in closet. We purchased a Rinnai water heater for about $1,200, bought a large oval deep bathtub and had a friend jet it, total cost about $700. The big cost was tiling everything with ornate tile. We went a little crazy. The labor was the expensive part but we didn't have to worry about anything. The small accessories were bought locally but the Price Pfister Catalina Roman Tub faucet - Tuscan Bronze was bought online and the delta faucet was bought from http://deisgnerpolumbingoutlet.com for about. If we had not done the tile the project would have been much less.

I have a very very very small bathroom, 5x6 wall to wall, with a shorty tub and shower. I went out and got quote after quote after quote. all in different ball parks, one guy said $9,000, another $7,000, one $5900. the prices were all over the place and for such a small bathroom and for economy tile and fixtures was way to high for my budget. I ended up having a friend do it on the weekends for $2000 and i bought all the material. In the end it cost me $4,300 but with all high end fixtures, tile, and sink.
It pays to get more than 3 estimates! |
