| How Much Do Dental Implants Cost? |
| |
| |
| Typical costs: | - Basic implants are $1,250-$3,000 each, but the total cost can escalate to $15,000-$30,000 depending on location, complexity and the need for bone or gum restoration work, according to DentalResources.com.Many dentists provide financing because most insurance doesn't cover implants.
| What should be included: | - For those missing one or more teeth, a titanium screw or post is surgically implanted into the bone of the jaw. AboutCosmeticDentistry.com describes three basic types of implant procedures. Implantation requires a full surgical team and healing may take three to six months. Once the area is healed, a crown is placed on the implant. The implant is considered permanent; the crown may be replaced as needed over the years.
| Additional costs: | - Get a detailed quote covering the cost of the surgery (including anesthesia), the post and the crown, whether more than one implant or crown is needed and the possible use of synthetic bone material during surgery, and whether all office visits or X-rays are included in the estimate.
| Discounts: | - Dental colleges may offer reduced rates for implants done by faculty members in a teaching situation; DentalSite.com lists school locations.
- The American Dental Association lists state dental societies, which sometimes provide partial payment of dental fees for low-income patients.
| Shopping for dental implants: | - A prosthodontist specializes in restorative treatments, including implants. Any graduate of an accredited dental school can perform these procedures; some states allow dentists to list themselves as prosthodontists without any additional training beyond regular dental college. However, most prosthodontists complete a three-year program in this specialty. If they pass a four-part examination are board certified. Ask about your doctor's training, or check with the American College of Prosthodontists to search for a certified specialist in your area.

There should be no confusion that the implant does not include the crown. Your doctor should have explained the procedure before hand. If not, you should\'ve asked him/her to explain before any agreement. Why wouldn\'t anyone ask for an explanation and details regarding any surgery, great or small? And one should always do their own research as well.
I just had my implant placed three days ago and will get my crown in a few months. Altogether with tooth extraction, bone growth treatment (I didn\'t have enough jaw bone for an implant right away), implant, and then crown, I\'ll be looking at over $4000 total not covered by insurance... |

| Which Tooth: Lower molar both sides |
| I just got an estimate including the implant, potential bone graft, extraction, etc, for $6000 to do two molars. This is a 2 hour procedure. $3000 per hour seems a bit excessive. An anesthesiologist doing organ transplant surgery makes about half that. I am going to call a couple of other people. |

| Which Tooth: Left central incisor and lower rightcani |
| my surgery would have costed only $2045 without insurance but I needed an extaction and bone grafting plus a temporary crown and two peranent ones. I had a free consultation and I'm only 17yrs old. For everything extra, but mandatory, and the same day implants and with a printed copy of the costs and surprisingly no surgeon fees it was only$ 5,520 with a 10% discount so the final cost was $5000. I am very satisfied! Next I'm moving onto body plastic surgery! |

| Which Tooth: 2nd Molar |
I was quoted $6100 for the following: removal of four wisdom teeth (partial bony), one extraction of 2nd molar (lower left), crown of 2nd molar of lower right, implaint of lower left 2nd molar, including a bone graft, set up, x-rays, the complete exams, panoramic x-ray, includes core buildup, including pins and the implaint crown with metal.
At first, I thought it was very expensive, but on second thought I think I'm getting a great price. Move to Los Angeles and I'll tell you who's my dentist!! |
