Nintendo unveiled the DS Lite system on June 11, 2006. It offers a Wi-Fi connection and two LCD screens that can be controlled with a stylus or fingertip.
 
Typical costs:
  • The Nintendo DS Lites hand-held console retails for $130. Although the game systems come in three colors - Onyx Black, Polar White and Coral Pink.
  • ToysRUs.com carries all three colors. According to a ToysRUs.com salesperson, the units sell out almost as soon as they arrive, particularly in black, so it's a good idea to check regularly.
  • Walmart.com packages the consoles with other Nintendo DS Lite accessories for a price of $199.28. In the bundles, customers are sold the console with a choice of one accessory and two games, or a starter kit and two games. The price is nearly the same as buying the items separately. Color selection may be limited.
  • Both new and used Nintendo DS Lites are being sold through Amazon.com. New consoles cost $158-160. Used systems run $129-$170, depending on condition and any games or accessories included. Tip: Check out the rating on a seller. Amazon tracks feedback from prior customers.
What should be included:
  • The Nintendo DS Lite includes a stylus which slides into a storage slot on the side.
Additional costs:
  • There are dozens of games available for the Nintendo DS Lite priced $20-$30. Top sellers at Walmart include Nintendogs: Dalmatian and Friends, Trauma Center: Under the Knife, Kirby Squeak Squad and Sonic Rush.
  • The AC adapter and the travel power pack, each run about $10.
  • A starter kit for Nintendo DS includes 2 multi-game cases, 2 stylus pens, top and bottom screen protectors, cleaning cloth, headphones and car adaptor for around $15.
