Though some dispute the research, baby DVDs were inspired by "The Mozart Effect," which suggests that listening to complex music, such as that of Mozart, can raise a person's IQ. Baby DVDs are early educational tools designed to introduce babies to language, music, numbers, shapes and other concepts, in an effort to foster early intellectual development.

Amount: $15.00 Brightening Minds Babies and Parent Nursery DVDs

I saw the Brightening Minds Baby DVDs on Amazon.com and ordered two of them for my cousin-in-laws when they had their first baby last March. The DVDs were "Languages and Numbers Playtime" and "Ages and Stages Playtime." I thought baby DVDs would be a nice way of wishing the best for them and their newborn. They complimented us later that they really appreciated the gift. I noticed recently that the DVDs cost even less on Amazon.com now -- $14 instead of $15 each.

A lot of people recommended this dvd/book to us for our baby, and we really liked it. The DVD sho0ws 5 techniques (like swaddling, shushing and holding sideways) for calming a fussy baby -- which can lead to a lot more peace and sleep. We paid $18 for it on Amazon.com. While I recommend the content, the DVD is so short, simple and repetitive that you won't need to re-watch it (it really could be done in 30 minutes) so you might want to just borrow it from a library.
